Fly to Zurich and transfer to Interlaken and your hotel where you will stay for six nights.
CHRISTMAS EVE Lucerne
Join our optional excursion to the picture-postcard town of Lucerne, which is set on the lake of the same name. Lucerne is renowned for its delightful mediaeval quarter and the famous 14th-century Kappelbrucke, or Chapel Bridge, spanning the surging River Reuss, which leaves the lake on its way to join the mighty Rhine. Take a walk along this arcaded bridge, whose walls are painted with scenes from the town’s long history. Much of the original frescos were destroyed by fire in 1993, but the bridge has been lovingly restored. Partway along the bridge is the distinctive Water Tower, which in the past has served as prison and treasury. Along the banks of the Reuss are some very impressive sights, not least the Jesuit Church, with its baroque ornamentation. Take a stroll along the riverside walk, which is lined with bars and cafes, to the lake where you will enjoy some marvellous views. The city’s ramparts are worth a visit, and also offer a breathtaking panorama of the city. This is the perfect trip for those who enjoy visiting beautiful towns surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
CHRISTMAS DAY The Bernese Oberland
There is something undeniably special about the sight of majestic mountains at this time of the year, and today you will enjoy a trip through one of the most spectacular landscapes in Europe. The stunning scenery of the Bernese Oberland has to be seen to be believed; awesome mountains, cascading waterfalls, shimmering glaciers, crystal-clear lakes and pretty Alpine villages. As part of our tour we visit Grindelwald, known as the Glacier Village, which offers one of the very best vantage points for views of the Jungfrau. There are more memorable sights later in the day as we join an atmospheric torch-lit procession, winding our way through the town with a welcome glass of Gluhwein to keep out the cold. Our day is rounded off in truly festive fashion with a superb dinner.
BOXING DAY Berne
On the banks of the River Aare stands the ancient city of Berne, capital of Switzerland. So impressive is the city’s mediaeval centre, that it has been designated a World Heritage sight by UNESCO. Our guided tour of this charming city includes a visit to the magnificent Gothic cathedral, whose imposing spire is the tallest cathedral tower in the country, the mediaeval houses of the Kramgasse and the famous 12th-century clock tower, resplendent with its colourful decorations. Within the Old Town you will find the city’s main shopping streets, Spitalgasse and Marktgasse, and there are various interesting markets for you to take a look at. Munsterplatz is home to one of Berne’s main Christmas markets, offering a good selection of craftwork and unique gifts, while the Waisenhausplatz market is the place to go for traditional Swiss Christmas delicacies. Wherever you turn, the traditional Old Town houses are decorated with small trees and Christmas lights – it’s an unforgettable festive experience. You will have free time to explore under your own steam, before we return to our hotel for aperitifs and a delicious dinner to complete the evening.
27 DECEMBER Interlaken
Interlaken is situated in the heart of the Bernese Oberland and offers unparalleled opportunities for sightseeing both locally and further afield. The town itself has been attracting visitors since the 19th century, drawn by the superb setting and unrivalled opportunities for enjoyment, both in winter and summer. Today you are free to get to know wonderful Interlaken at your own pace. Why not take a stroll along the main street, Hoheweg, which is lined with Victorian shops, charming hotels and good restaurants. The centrepiece of the street is the Hohematte, whose wide-open space offers great views of the mountains, and there is also a lovely Japanese Garden. There are plenty more fascinating sights to discover such as Interlaken’s castle and the former Augustine monastery. Dating back to the 12th century, and the current building is home to the town’s council. The impressive Kursaal, which was built in 1859, is the town’s cultural centre.

Regional connecting flights to London from only £69
If you can’t fly direct to your destination from your local airport (see individual holiday details), usually you will have the choice of taking a regional connecting flight to Heathrow or Gatwick from as little as £69 per person return. If your connecting flight and your flight from Gatwick or Heathrow is with British Airways or British Midland, your luggage will automatically be checked through to your final destination, so there’s no need to collect or check your luggage in twice.

Make your own way and save up to £150 per person
You may want more flexibility to make your own travel arrangements to combine your trip with visits to friends and relatives or travel from an airport which we do not offer. Getting you there - Worldwide Holidays

If you live within a 250-mile drive of your departure airport, we will arrange for a taxi to pick you up from your door and take you to the airport, and drop you home on your return, with our compliments.

If you live further than 250 miles from the airport, or if you prefer, you can opt to transfer to the main departure airport by a connecting flight from an airport closer to home (subject to availability).
3. FREE National Express coach travel
