There are a range of cabins available offering different levels of comfort starting with the inside two-bedded cabin on Aegean or Pacific in category A. If you think you will want to spend more time in your cabin, you may wish to pay a little more for an outside cabin with a window or porthole, or for a cabin on a higher deck. Our Junior Suites are the ultimate in comfort with a lounge area and whirlpool bath. We also have a number of Deluxe Suites with a separate lounge and private balcony, making your trip extra special.
All categories have private facitities including a bath with shower, television, fridge, safe and air-conditioning. Suites also have a lounge area, DVD player and whirlpool bath. In addition, Balcony Suites are larger, with separate lounge, private balcony and walk in wardrobe. Categories E & J have portholes, all other outside categories have a ‘picture’ window.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1 (Friday 20 August) Dover
Join Athena in time for our 3.30pm sailing.
DAY 2 Cruising at sea
Relax and enjoy the facilities on board.
DAY 3 La Coruna – Spain
The artist Picasso chose to live in La Coruna, surrounded by the natural beauty of Galicia in Spain’s northwest corner and there are many reminders of the great painter. Perhaps pay a visit to the magnificent 12th-century cathedral at Santiago de Compostela.
DAY 4 Oporto
Classified in the UNESCO World heritage list, Oporto is an important city in northern Portugal. This lovely city is home to many beautiful buildings, ranging from baroque towers to gothic churches. Being on the Douro river means a visit to this city isn’t complete without enjoying a relaxing cruise down the river. A visit to the wine cellars to sample the locally produced port is also a must!
DAY 5 Cruising
Make the most of a relaxing day aboard Athena today.
DAY 6 Funchal – Madeira
Known as the ‘Floating Garden’, Madeira is famous for it’s spectacular landscapes, traditional villages and its tropical flowers. From the pretty capital Funchal our range of shore excursions will show you the island’s natural beauty.
DAY 7 La Palma – Canaries
We reach the Canary Islands today and call at Santa Cruz, the main town of the island of La Palma. A maze of cobbled streets lead away from a seafront lined with elegant balconied houses. Look out for the Church of San Salvador with its elegant Mudejar coffered ceiling and the full-scale replica of Columbus’ flagship, the Santa Maria. The national park of the Caldera de Taburiente dominates Las Palmas and is worth a visit, a spectacular volcanic landscape of rugged cliffs, pine forests and glittering streams.
DAY 8 Lanzarote – Canaries
Our cruise brings us to Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. It’s a quiet and beautiful port city with a historic centre full of shops, museums and attractive buildings. Why not take an excursion to the Timanfaya National Park to see the amazing volcanic rock formations?
DAY 9 Cruising at sea
Relax on board as we head for Casablanca.
DAY 10 Casablanca
We arrive on the coast of North Africa at the town immortalised by Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. Today you will find an eclectic mix of old and new. Fabulous shore excursions will take you to the medina and souks of Marrakech or to Rabat, the fascinating capital of Morocco.
DAY 11 Cadiz
We return to mainland Europe and visit one of Spain’s most historic cities. Take a stroll through the narrow streets to see the Santo Domingo Church, the old Royal Prison, the ancient Roman Theatre and splendid Town Hall. Perhaps join us on a guided tour of the city, or why not travel further afield to Jerez, the home of sherry, for a tasting of this famous tipple.
DAY 12 Lisbon
Be on deck this morning as Athena approaches Lisbon up the mighty Tagus estuary. It’s a memorable introduction to the city, characterised by cobbled streets in the ancient Alfama district, broad avenues, and the riverside quarter of Belem, site of the Jeronimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries. Perhaps join a shore excursion to visit the bay of Cascais or the elegant resort of Estoril.
DAYS 13 & 14 Cruising at sea
Enjoy your final days on board as we head back to the UK.
DAY 15 Dover
We disembark after breakfast to return home.

Regional connecting flights to London from only £69
If you can’t fly direct to your destination from your local airport (see individual holiday details), usually you will have the choice of taking a regional connecting flight to Heathrow or Gatwick from as little as £69 per person return. If your connecting flight and your flight from Gatwick or Heathrow is with British Airways or British Midland, your luggage will automatically be checked through to your final destination, so there’s no need to collect or check your luggage in twice.

Make your own way and save up to £150 per person
You may want more flexibility to make your own travel arrangements to combine your trip with visits to friends and relatives or travel from an airport which we do not offer. If so, why not take advantage of our make your own way option. We offer a reduction of £150 off many of our holidays to allow you to make your own arrangements, if that is what you want. Details of where this option is available are shown on each holiday.
Please remember that these arrangements do not include flights or transfers and you will need to make your own travel arrangements at the beginning and end of your holiday.

Getting you there - Worldwide Holidays
To get your holiday off to a great start, we offer a range of transfer options with our compliments.
You can choose from the following options:
1. Experience door-to-door travel with Page & Moy (2009 departures only)
If you live within a 250-mile drive of your departure airport, we will arrange for a taxi to pick you up from your door and take you to the airport, and drop you home on your return, with our compliments.
2. FREE Connecting flights
If you live further than 250 miles from the airport, or if you prefer, you can opt to transfer to the main departure airport by a connecting flight from an airport closer to home (subject to availability).
3. FREE National Express coach travel
Alternatively, why not choose coach travel on the extensive national express network, with over 1,200 collection points nationwide. What’s more, we’ll pay for your ticket!
4. FREE airport car parking (2009 departures only)
If you would prefer the flexibility of travelling independently to the airport, we are pleased to offer
the option of free parking at your departure airport.
