Your Itinerary
DAY 1 UK/Barcelona
Fly to Barcelona and transfer to your Barcelona hotel for a four-night stay.
DAY 2 Barcelona
This is a dynamic city of bustling boulevards, lush parks, fine historic monuments and, perhaps most famously of all, striking Modernista architecture. Our four-night stay gives you time to really get to the heart of the city – join the Tour Manager and our official local guide this morning for a panoramic sightseeing tour to introduce you to the highlights and to help you make the most of your free time later. See the magnificent cathedral and mediaeval alleyways; climb the Montjuic Hill for stunning views over the city; and don’t forget to take a stroll down Las Ramblas, a hive of activity both day and night.
DAY 3 Gaudi’s Barcelona
The city is studded with wonderful examples of Gaudi’s Modernista architecture and this is the focus of our half-day guided tour this morning. See his masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, the amazing Parc Guell and the extraordinary facades of the Casa Batllo and Casa Mila, built without a single straight wall.
DAY 4 Tarragona & Poblet
Don’t miss our optional full-day excursion. Tarragona is an ancient city majestically set on a rocky hill high above the sea and home to some of Spain’s best-preserved Roman ruins. We continue to Poblet to visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Poblet, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
DAY 5 Costa Brava & Girona
Heading north this morning, we enjoy a short stop at the resort of San Feliu with its historic town and sheltered beach, before continuing to the hilltown of Begur where we can admire the sweeping views of the dramatic coastline. This afternoon we visit the walled town of Pals, with its maze of mediaeval streets, before reaching our base for three nights, Girona.
DAY 6 Girona
An overwhelmingly beautiful mediaeval city, Girona stands on a fortress-like hill above the River Onyar. A morning guided walking tour includes the Gothic cathedral, the impressive pastel-coloured houses and ancient streets of the Jewish Quarter.
DAY 7 Dali Museum & Besalu
There’s a real treat in store today as we travel north to Figueres, the birthplace of surrealist artist Salvador Dali. Here we visit the Dali Museum, which houses the most comprehensive collection of his work in the world. Topped by a huge metallic dome and decorated with luminous egg shapes, the building is as surreal as the exhibits inside – an experience not to be missed.
Return to the real world this afternoon with a visit to the mediaeval town of Besalu. Relatively untouched, it is one of the most attractive in Catalonia and home to a magnificent 12th-century bridge.
DAY 8 Barcelona/UK
Return to Barcelona airport for the homeward flight.
