Your Itinerary

DAY 1 UK/IRKUTSK
We fly to Irkutsk for the start of our amazing journey.

DAY 2 IRKUTSK
On arrival in Irkutsk we meet our local guide and transfer to our hotel in Listvyanka for an overnight stay. Our sightseeing begins with a trip to the fascinating Limnological Institute, dedicated to studying the flora and fauna of Lake Baikal. Then it’s on to a local house, known as a dacha, where we enjoy lunch with the family who live there.

During the afternoon we take a short walk along the Angara Dam and through the village of Bolshaya Retshka before boarding a chair lift to the top of a mountain to take in the magnificent views across Lake Baikal.

DAY 3 LAKE BAIKAL
This is the world’s deepest lake. We enjoy a cruise on the lake (weather permitting) to see it from a different perspective to truly appreciate its immense size. Returning to dry land, our private train will be waiting and porters will be stood by ready to take your luggage straight to your compartment. The first part of our magnificent Trans-Siberian adventure takes us along the shores of Lake Baikal, across incredible viaducts and through a number of short tunnels. There will be plenty of photo stops en route to ensure that we see the very best of our beautiful surroundings. Enjoy a wonderful lakeside picnic dinner tonight (weather permitting), before re-boarding the train for the journey to Irkutsk.

DAY 4 IRKUTSK
We arrive early this morning into Irkutsk, the regional capital of Eastern Siberia. Our included city tour takes us to sights including the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Church of the Holy Saviour (the oldest stone building in the city) and Znamensky Convent. During the afternoon we visit an open-air museum that depicts Siberian life in days gone by. We stay overnight in Irkutsk.

DAY 5 TRANS-SIBERIA
Our journey takes us through the stunning landscapes of Eastern Siberia today. Through the windows, you will see towering mountains, crystal-clear rivers and lush vegetation. Accompanying your journey will be a series of entertaining talks, shedding a little light on Siberia’s sometimes turbulent history. There will also be a traditionally Russian get-together complete with caviar and vodka.

DAY 6 NOVOSIBIRSK
At noon, we pull into the vibrant city of Novosibirsk, where we will be greeted with bread, salt and balalaika music in the traditional fashion. One of the largest cities in Russia, it was only founded just over 100 years ago. It was here that a bridge was constructed over the River Ob during the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and from that point, the city grew. On our sightseeing tour today, we see the old part of the city centre and the embankment over the river where it all began. We re-board the train for the overnight journey to Ekaterinburg.

DAY 7 EKATERINBURG
The capital of the Ural Mountains, Ekaterinburg is also located on the border between Europe and Asia. We enjoy a short sightseeing tour of the city, visiting the Church on Blood, built between 2000 and 2003 on the spot where Tsar Nicholas II and members of his family were executed. We reboard our private train and continue on our journey.

DAY 8 KAZAN
We arrive in the old Tartar capital of Kazan this morning after breakfast. Sat on the banks of the River Volga, there is plenty of history to be found here on our guided tour. Later we enjoy a boat trip with lunch on the Volga. Back on the train this evening, you have your last opportunity to enjoy the sumptuous surroundings of your private train before we reach Moscow.

DAY 9 MOSCOW
Our spectacular rail journey ends this morning in Moscow. This is a city of immense contrasts – on the one hand a city with many buildings of great historical and architectural value – and on the other hand, a modern vibrant city with a population of over eight million. This afternoon, we pay a visit to the Kremlin, with its impressive cathedrals and Armoury. After dinner we take a magical evening trip through the city, stopping at Red Square and taking a ride on the metro to visit two of the beautiful stations.

DAY 10 MOSCOW/UK
We visit Moscow’s main attractions today on our guided tour, including the reconstructed Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Lomonossov University, the New Virgin Monastery and Red Square with its colourful St Basil’s Cathedral, as well as the former KGB headquarters and the White House. Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
