Your Itinerary
DAY 1 UK/Bergen
Fly to Bergen and transfer to your hotel for a two night stay. The afternoon will be free for you to discover the delights of this charming city for yourself. Perhaps take a walk to the historic Bryggen harbour area, with its colourfully painted and gabled former warehouses that line the waterfront.
DAY 2 Bergen
You are at leisure in Bergen to explore for yourself. Alternatively, join our included half-day sightseeing tour, which will introduce you to the main sights in and around the town.
DAY 3 Sognefjord
Leaving Bergen behind this morning, we enjoy a scenic drive to the little village of Gudvangen, travelling via the steep Stalheim Canyon. During the afternoon, we will take a two hour cruise on the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest of Norway’s fjords. Sit back and admire waterfalls spilling over from steep mountain cliffs, keeping an eye out for farmhouses dotted along the banks of the fjord.
The cruise takes us to the attractive town of Flam, where we board the Flam Railway for the spectacular journey to Myrdal, which is situated at an altitude of 3,000 feet. This has to be one of the most amazing stretches of railway in the world. Only around 13 miles long, it runs from Flam at sea level, travelling alongside the Flam River and through several tunnels. Arriving in Myrdal, we change trains for the journey along the regular railway to Geilo, arriving in the evening for an overnight stay. Your luggage will be transferred to Oslo, so all you will need for tonight is an overnight bag.
DAY 4 Bergen to Oslo
This morning, you will board the Bergen-Oslo line for the rail journey to Oslo, Norway’s lovely capital, where we will stay for the next two nights. The afternoon is free for you to explore this city full of sights. Perhaps take a walk along Karl Johans Gate, the main street through the city, or visit the Aker Brygge harbour area with its numerous shops, bars and restaurants.
DAY 5 Oslo
Join our included half day sightseeing tour around Oslo today in the company of a knowledgeable local guide. Remainder of the day at leisure.
DAY 6 Oslo to Trondheim
Travel aboard the Dovre Railway this morning from Oslo to Trondheim, the former capital of Norway. During the afternoon, join our included sightseeing tour of this university city, including sights such as the Gothic Nidaros Cathedral.
DAY 7 Trondheim to Bodo
Our journey today takes us along the Northern Railway as we travel from Trondheim to Bodo. This impressive journey takes all day and passes through some simply stunning scenery. The views from your window are absolutely wonderful as you cross the Arctic Circle.
DAY 8 Bodo/UK
Spend a little time exploring the charming harbour in Bodo before transferring to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
