Your Itinerary

DAY 1 UK/Venice

We fly to Venice and transfer to our hotel for a three-night stay.

DAYS 2 & 3 Venice

We have two days amid the incomparable beauty of Venice. To introduce you to the city we have included a short walking tour, showing us St Mark’s Square, the exotic basilica, the Doges’ Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Be sure to sample the local cuisine in one of the many restaurants – an ideal way to relax after a day spent sightseeing or exploring one or two of the city’s main art galleries.

Perhaps join our optional excursion:

VENICE AND ITS ISLANDS (¾ day)
On our guided tour we discover the charming backwaters, hidden squares and historic residential areas, where life goes on much as it has for years. This is the Venice that most tourists never get to see and we travel by private boat to the Venetian lagoon and some of the beautiful, yet relatively unexplored islands including San Giorgio, Murano and Burano.

DAY 4 Bologna & Florence

Travelling south, we break our journey in Bologna, one of Italy’s less well known but truly beautiful cities. Mediaeval streets spread out from the central Piazza Maggiore and sienna-coloured buildings capped with red roofs rise from the marble pavements. We continue to the Tuscan capital, Florence, for the next three nights.

DAYS 5 & 6 Florence

Set beside the River Arno amid the green hills of Tuscany, Florence is the jewel of the Renaissance. Our half-day included sightseeing tour will show us the magnificent cathedral, crowned by its huge dome, the bustling Piazza della Signoria and some of Florence’s fine palaces, squares and churches. Make time for shopping in the colourful markets, or why not take the walk to Piazzale Michelangelo for a glorious view across the entire city.

You may also wish to join our optional excursions:

SIENA (full day)
Little changed since the Middle Ages, Siena is characterised by picturesque, steep winding streets and the black and white facade of its magnificent Gothic cathedral.

FIESOLE (half day)
From the sleepy hill-town of Fiesole we enjoy fabulous views over the city of Florence before perhaps visiting the town's archaelogical  area to see the ruins of the Roman theatre, temple and baths.

DAY 7 Orvieto & Rome

On our way south to the Italian capital we visit Orvieto, an ancient town in an eagle’s nest setting atop a volcanic outcrop. The town is famous for its Gothic cathedral, one of Italy’s finest, and it’s fine, light white wine. We arrive in Rome in the afternoon and check into our hotel for our final three night stay.

DAYS 8 & 9 Rome

Endowed with the legacy of more than 2,700 years of history, Rome is one of the world’s greatest cities. Our included walking tour will highlight some of the main attractions including the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain. The rest of the time is your own – perhaps explore the historic centre, indulge yourself with a little shopping, visit the beautiful Colosseum or simply soak up the atmosphere of this cosmopolitan city in one of the many cafes and bars. Perhaps visit the Vatican City and see inspiring St Peter’s Basilica, the celebrated Sistine Chapel and some of the priceless treasures of the Vatican Museums.

Alternatively, you may wish to join our excellent optional excursions, revealing even more of Rome:

TIVOLI AND THE VILLA D’ESTE (¾ DAY)
We leave the centre of Rome for a visit to Tivoli. During the Renaissance, the position of the town, away from the turmoil of the city, served as the inspiration for countless villas. We visit the most famous, the lovely Villa d’Este, built in 1550 as a pleasure palace for Cardinal d’Este, with beautiful gardens and terraces looking out over the beautiful surrounding countryside.

ROMAN RESTAURANT
Enjoy an evening out in a typical Roman restaurant with the chance to see some of the city by night.

DAY 10 Rome/UK

We transfer to Rome airport to join our homeward flight.
