Your Itinerary
DAY 1 UK/Toronto
We fly to Toronto and transfer into the city and the Delta Chelsea Hotel, our base for the first two nights.
DAY 2 Toronto & Niagara Falls
Situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, Toronto is a delightful mix of old and new with futuristic skyscrapers towering over historic buildings. We enjoy a short orientation tour of Toronto before visiting one of the great natural wonders of the world - Niagara Falls. Take an optional helicopter flight over the falls or a trip on the Maid of the Mist, sailing right into the basin beneath the Horseshoe Falls.
DAY 3 Montreal
We leave Toronto this morning and travel by train to Montreal. We arrive in Montreal in the early afternoon and stay at the Gouverneur Place Dupuis Hotel overnight.
DAY 4 Montreal & Quebec City
Our morning guided tour takes in the Basilica of Notre Dame; the historic Place des Armes; McGill University; the old port; Mont Royal; St Catherine Street; and the old quarter with its cosmopolitan atmosphere and outdoor cafes. This afternoon we head for Quebec City and the 4-star Delta Quebec Hotel where we spend the night. Our optional dinner cruise on the St Lawrence River this evening is a wonderful introduction to the city.
DAY 5 Quebec City & The Ocean
Quebec City is an enchanting walled city and World Heritage Site. We see the Citadel; famous Chateau Frontenac; the Latin Quarter; Parliament Hill; and the Basilica. The afternoon is free to make your own discoveries before an evening out in one of the local sugar shack restaurants. Later this evening we board The Ocean for our overnight rail journey to Halifax.
DAY 6 The Ocean & Halifax
Enjoy the amenities on board the train this morning. We have exclusive access to the scenic dome section from where we enjoy the beautiful scenery passing Chaleur Bay and travelling through the province of New Brunswick to Nova Scotia. A delicious lunch of regionally inspired cuisine and local wine is served on board before our arrival in Halifax. We spend three nights at the centrally located Delta Barrington hotel.
DAY 7 Halifax
Discover the scenic beauty, rich heritage and vibrant culture of the Maritimes and Nova Scotia. Our sightseeing tour reveals a mix of elegant 18th and 19th-century architecture alongside ultra modern towers of glass and steel. We enjoy a stroll along the historic waterfront, seeing the Titanic cemetery and visiting the fascinating Maritime Museum, with an amazing array of exhibits from the Titanic and Halifax explosion.
DAY 8 Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg & Mahone Bay
A day to relax or join a wonderful optional excursion to Nova Scotia’s south shore. We travel to Peggy’s Cove, dominated by a graceful lighthouse, which doubles as the local post office. We continue to Lunenburg, a historic port on Mahone Bay.
DAY 9 Pictou & Baddeck
We head north for Cape Breton Island today and make a stop at the picturesque town of Pictou en route. Known as the ‘birthplace of New Scotland’, this is where the first settlers from the Scottish Highlands landed in 1773 and today we see a replica of their ship, the Hector. We reach Baddeck, former home of Alexander Graham Bell, in the afternoon and the 3-star Ceilidh Country Lodge where we spend our final three nights. Breakfast is taken in the lodge and dinner each evening is included in the Inverary Restaurant. Please note that Baddeck is a ‘dry’ town, although you may consume alcohol at the bar of the Inverary Resort.
DAY 10 The Cabot Trail
Named after the famous explorer, John Cabot, the Cabot Trail is one of the world’s most beautiful scenic drives. We enjoy unforgettable vistas of Cape Breton’s rugged coastline while watching out for whales and bald eagles. We make a stop at Cheticamp, a busy fishing village. We have included a thrilling whale-watching cruise off the coast.
DAYS 11 & 12 Halifax/UK
We have time this morning for a cruise on the beautiful Bras d’Or lakes before transferring to Halifax airport for the return overnight flight to the UK.
