DAY 1 UK/Winnipeg
We fly to Winnipeg, meet our local representative and transfer to our hotel for the start of our adventure.
DAY 2 Churchill
We have a free morning to explore Winnipeg. Although the largest city in central Canada, it is easy to explore on foot and all the major attractions are within walking distance of each other. Perhaps visit the Manitoba Museum of Man & Nature to learn the history of the province; or take a stroll around the Art Gallery, which is home to the world’s largest collection of Inuit art. At midday we transfer to the airport for our flight to the far north of the province of Manitoba and the remote settlement of Churchill, set on the southern shore of Hudson Bay. Known as the ‘polar bear capital of the world’, we spend three nights here with a welcome dinner included this evening. During our stay we may be lucky enough to witness the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. This swirling curtain of blues, greens and whites can be seen in the skies usually between September and April.
DAY 3 Polar Bear Migration
We head out for a thrilling full day on the tundra in specially designed vehicles – heated for comfort, on high tyres for safety and with large windows for unobstructed views.Anticipation will be high and our first sight of these magnificent animals in the frozen wilderness will be a truly invigorating experience. Lunch is included today.
DAY 4 Churchill
This morning we have included a tour of the town and surrounding area, followed by a free afternoon to explore at leisure. See the animal hide canoes, arctic animals and carved soapstone figurines at the Eskimo Museum; and learn the history of the fur trade and the Hudson Bay Company at the Parks Canada Centre.
DAY 5 Polar Bear Migration
We have a second opportunity to witness the wonderful natural phenomena of the polar bear migration in our tundra buggy with lunch included. After our farewell dinner this evening we fly back to Winnipeg for an overnight stay.
DAY 6 Toronto
After breakfast we leave Winnipeg for the flight to Toronto where we spend the final three nights.
DAY 7 Toronto
Today’s sightseeing will introduce us to this bright, modern city, situated by Lake Ontario. Highlights include an underground mall with great shopping opportunities, the restored harbour front, bustling Chinatown, the mediaeval style folly of Casa Loma; and the 1,815-foot-high CN Tower, the world’stallest free-standing structure. Take a ride to the top for the most amazing views over the city – on a clear day you can see as far as Niagara.
DAY 8 Niagara Falls
We have included an excursion to the Niagara Falls, one of Canada’s must-see sights. These amazing twin falls plunge down 180 feet, creating a curtain of spray and a rumble like thunder. There are actually two waterfalls, the immense Horseshoe Falls and the smaller, but no less impressive, American Falls on the US side. Paths and tunnels lead directly to viewing points in the rock behind the water for a staggering view.
DAYS 9 & 10 Toronto/UK
There will be a little free time this morning before we transfer to the airport for our overnight flight back to the UK.
